This week in data science we discussed the pros and cons of big data. the idea behind big data is colleting a lot of information and then using that information to make inferences and decisions. The hope is for this to be a unbiased way of rewarding or punishing people. a big issue with this idea is how accurate is your data source and what exactly the algorithm is looking at. this is seen the the CEO example where they put all these successful men in but only a few women, the algorithm is going to pick the man. well lets say we are using the same data base but we just put in the stats and not the names the algorithm still picks up on thing on the resume such as sorority that has a gender attached. Another thing we talked about with big data is how it taking away some of our rights to make decisions on out own such as in autonomous cars and even in elections.   Hi, I'm Mara Anderson. I'm a 5th year student at the University of Toledo, Majoring in Data Science with a minor in Computer Science. I when I first attended UT in 2018 I was majoring in Electrical Engineering and decided that was not for me. So I took an exploratory year taking classes in Mechanical Engineering and Data Science. Needless to say Data Science won. I'm am also very active in the UT community. I've an avid Rocket fan! I attended all of the home football games every year... Well actually that's because I'm a member of the Rocket Marching Band! Ive played the clarinet for 12 years. I'm also an active member of 2 music fraternities. I'm looking forward to learning about the ethics of data.
